Machine Simulation Installation/Update Guide

This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to install a new or updated SolidCAM Machine Simulation.

Step 1: Identify Your Machine Simulation Directory

Before moving any files, you need to locate where SolidCAM looks for machine simulations on your computer.

  1. Open your SolidCAM Global Settings.
  2. In the left-hand menu, locate the Tool Path Simulation heading and click on Machine Simulation.
  3. Copy the full file path displayed in the Files Directory field.
    1. 📌 Default Directory: > If you haven't changed your settings, the default SolidCAM directory is typically:
C:\Users\Public\Documents\SolidCAM\SolidCAM20xx\Tables\Mach-Sim\xml (Note: "20xx" corresponds to your specific SolidCAM version).
  4. Close SolidWorks / Autodesk Inventor completely before proceeding to the next step.

Step 2: Extract Your Files to the Simulation Directory

Once you have the file path, you can transfer your new simulation files.

  1. Open File Explorer and find the .zip file that was delivered to you.
  2. Right-click on the file and select Extract All.
  3. In the pop-up menu, paste the SolidCAM Directory file path that you copied in Step 1 into the text box.
  4. Click Extract in the bottom right of the pop-up menu.

Step 3: Restart Solidworks / SolidCAM

For the changes to take effect, you must refresh the software environment.

  1. Reopen Solidworks/SolidCAM (and your CAD platform). Your new Machine Simulation will be available and selectable from the simulation selection window.

If you also need to install a Postprocessor, follow the instructions here:
