Securely Uploading ITAR-Controlled Files to SolidCAM Support

Learn how to securely share ITAR-controlled files with SolidCAM's US-based support team using PreVeil encrypted file sharing

How ITAR-Controlled File Sharing Works

If your support case involves ITAR-controlled technical data, files cannot be sent by email or uploaded through standard channels. Instead, your SolidCAM support engineer will create a private, encrypted folder for your case and share it with you via PreVeil - a FedRAMP-authorized, end-to-end encrypted file sharing platform used by our US support team.

Once your support ticket is submitted, you will receive a PreVeil invitation email within 1 business day. The steps below walk you through accepting it and uploading your files - the process takes about 3–5 minutes and requires no software installation on your end.

Why PreVeil?

PreVeil is an end-to-end encrypted file sharing platform built for regulated industries. Files shared through PreVeil are accessible only to the people the folder is shared with - in this case, you and your SolidCAM support engineer. All data is stored on AWS GovCloud (U.S.), providing a secure, compliant infrastructure for handling ITAR-controlled and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI).

PreVeil meets CMMC, NIST 800-171, ITAR, DFARS, and FedRAMP Moderate requirements.

All SolidCAM US support engineers are US citizens. As a customer, you do not need to install any software - PreVeil Express runs entirely in your browser. Your SolidCAM support engineer accesses the files on their end through the PreVeil desktop application, which works like OneDrive or a network drive, allowing them to open your files directly in SolidCAM for troubleshooting.

Step-by-Step: How to Upload Your Files

Step 1 - Check your email for the PreVeil invitation

Look for an email from PreVeil Admin (verification.no-reply@preveil.com) with the subject:

"[Your SolidCAM engineer] has invited you to use PreVeil for encrypted email"

Check your spam or junk folder if you don't see it within 1 business day. Click the orange "Create Account" button inside the email.

Step 2 - Create your free PreVeil Express account

You will be taken to the PreVeil Express signup page. Complete the following:

    • Confirm your email address - your work email will be your PreVeil User ID. Complete the CAPTCHA and click "Send Verification Email."
    • Enter the verification code - check your email for a 6-digit code from PreVeil (valid for 15 minutes) and enter it on the verification screen.
    • Enter your name - provide your first and last name, check the box to accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, then click "Create Account."
    • Create a password - choose a strong password of at least 8 characters. Important: PreVeil does not store your password. Use your browser's password manager to save it, or record it somewhere safe. You will also be prompted to save an Account Recovery file - save this to a secure location in case you ever need to recover your account.
    • Set up two-factor authentication - choose one of the following methods:
      • Text Message - receive a one-time passcode by SMS
      • Authenticator App - use Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or similar
      • Passkey or Security Key - for FedRAMP-compliant hardware key login

    Your account is now active.

Step 3 - Accept the shared folder

Once you are logged in to PreVeil Express:

      • Click "Drive" in the top navigation bar.
      • Click "Invitations" in the left sidebar.
      • You will see a folder shared by your SolidCAM support engineer, named with the date and your issue description (e.g., 2026.05.22 – Crashes during calculation).
      • Click "Accept" to add it to your PreVeil Drive.

Step 4 - Upload your ITAR files

    After accepting the invitation:

      • Click "My PreVeil" in the left sidebar, then click on the shared folder - OR click the folder name directly from the Invitations screen.
      • You are now inside your secure, private case folder.
      • Upload your files using either method:
        • Drag and drop your files directly onto the page, or
        • Click the upload button (↑ arrow icon in the toolbar) and navigate to your files using Windows Explorer or macOS Finder.

Supported file types include .prz, .sldprt, .sldasm, .slddrw, and any other SolidCAM or SolidWorks file formats relevant to your issue. Once uploaded, your support engineer will be notified and will access the files directly through PreVeil on their workstation.

      Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to install any software? No. As a customer, you access PreVeil entirely through your browser. No downloads or installation are required.

Do I need to keep my PreVeil account after this support case? No. Your account is free and has no expiration, but you are not required to maintain it. You may delete it at any time from your account settings.

What if I lose my password? PreVeil does not store passwords. Use the Account Recovery file you saved during setup to regain access. If you did not save the recovery file, contact SolidCAM support and we will create a new shared folder for you.

Can I upload multiple files or entire folders? Yes. You can select multiple files at once using the upload button, or drag an entire selection onto the page.

I already have a PreVeil account. Do I need to create a new one? No. If you already have a PreVeil or PreVeil Express account associated with your work email, simply log in and navigate to Drive → Invitations to accept the shared folder.

I don't see the invitation in my Invitations tab. The invitation is delivered from your support engineer's PreVeil account. If it has not yet appeared, the inbox will show a message noting that a pending invitation will arrive once your engineer is online. Refresh the page or check back shortly. Also, check your email's spam folder for the original invitation email.

Where are my files stored? All files are stored in AWS GovCloud (U.S.) on SolidCAM's licensed PreVeil account, and are accessible only to you and your assigned support engineer.
